Issues of Czech language acquisition by foreign speakers

The diploma thesis builds on bachelor thesis entitled Issues of Sociolinguistics and it is divided into a theoretical and practical part. It focuses in more details on the concept of Czech language as a foreign language and its learning by speakers from abroad - adult non-native speakers. The theoretical part describes pivotal key concepts and terms related to sociolinguistics with mentioning its sub-discipline interactional sociolinguistics. The thesis also describes study options of Czech language in our country, the most frequent methods used during lessons and the explanation of language levels according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. A part of this section is a description of the most commonly used textbooks of Czech, analysis of their structure and main topics. The practical part is focused on students of Czech as a foreign language. They fill in a questionnaire and they are also part of an interview.
Schooling for Students Speaking Different Native Language in Regular or Online Lessons When Teaching Czech Language at Primary School

The thesis examines the education of pupils with a distinctive native language in face-to-face and distance education in primary school. The theoretical part of the thesis clarifies the forms of education in primary school, both traditional face-to-face education and various forms of distance education. It also covers the concepts of "Czech as a second language", "Czech as a foreign language", "pupil with a different native language", and "a foreigner pupil". The theoretical part of the thesis provides an overview of various support possibilities for pupils with different native languages. The overview includes support directly at primary schools or support through organizations dedicated to the teaching of Czech to pupils with different native languages. The practical part consists of six educational materials on the topic of school. The teaching materials were created for pupils recently arriving from Ukraine with an A0 level in the Czech language. The purpose of these materials is to make it easier to find their way around the Czech school environment. This diploma thesis deals with national assessment of language abilities of hearing impaired pupils and closer focuses on pre-lingual deaf pupils at the ends of the primary and lower secondary schools. Based on the definition of the characteristics of the national assessment, the diploma thesis also focuses on an overview of currently used language tests, both at international level as well as it gives information about the practice in selected foreign education systems. Special attention is devoted to information that deal with the assessment of language abilities in the Czech Republic, and the form of participation of deaf pupils in such testing . The practical part is done by a research which was done to find out the views of those involved in the education of pupils with hearing disorders just the current assessment practice language skills of the pupils. In the final part of my diploma thesis is a possible outline for innovations for testing related to information from the preceding parts of my diploma thesis.
THE AUDIO COMPONENT IN TEACHING CZECH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

(in English): This thesis deals with the issues of teaching listening in Czech as a foreign language. It is based on studying theoretic sources, structured observing and the comparison of didactic materials, on questionnaires and informal interviews. In its theoretical part, it brings a brief overview of present knowledge in this field, using predominantly foreign sources that deal with teaching English as a foreign language. The second part enables the comparison of various didactic materials from the points of view acquired in the previous chapter, and it also provides an overview of the typology of listening tasks, including their evaluation. The last chapter designs some new sample materials based on what has been found out about their imperfections in this field so far, and it also mentions some suitable resources for designing the new listening tasks. The merit of this thesis on the theoretical level consists of making the main results of contemporary Anglo-American science accessible for the Czech auditory, on the practical level it lies in presenting an overall list of listening tasks and showing (in the Czech materials) some so far unknown possibilities of teaching the listening comprehension, these alternatives being accompanied with practical examples.
Teachers of Czech Language as a Foreign Language for Pre-School Children

The M. A. thesis concerns with teaching Czech as foreign language for pre-school children. The main aim of thesis is current situation of teaching Czech as foreign language for pre- school children with respect to teachers who perform this teaching, primarily to the qualifications of teachers, the approaches and the methods which they choose and the teaching materials which they use. The first part of thesis deals firstly with significance of teaching Czech as foreign language for pre-school children then with education teachers of Czech as foreign language for pre- school children and finally with pre-school children as target group of teaching foreign language and Czech as foreign language. In the chapter about methodology we describe chosen qualitative methods of research and course of the research. The empirical part of thesis is divided into three parts, in the first one are presented the research data from the semi-structured interviews in Prague and the results of qualitative analysis of materials which are used by teachers. Czech as a second language for a pupil with a different mother tongue in primary school

This thesis deals with teaching Czech as a second language for pupils with a different mother tongue at primary school. Collects and presents professional findings on this topic. Diploma thesis explains the difference between Czech as a second language and Czech as a foreign language and compares them. The thesis examined what is necessary when the teacher is planning the lesson. Further, describes in detail the various materials and textbook Domino 1 in terms of a beginning teacher of Czech for foreigners. In the practical part of the thesis submitted to analyse three topics. Based on this analysis and complete analysis of theoretical knowledge, textbooks, and materials originated recommendations for a beginning teachers. The thesis also deals with a utility of textbooks of Czech as a second language in a regular classroom. The practical part includes ideas for games in a lesson or samples of worksheets. The result of the work is to evaluate teaching materials and sample other tools that can be used in the Czech lessons for foreigners. Learning Czech language in the 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired - description of current situation and potentiality of innovation

This thesis is focused on problems of teaching in school subject Czech Language in 1 - 3 grade of elementary schools for hearing impaired. The whole issue is put into the theoretical framework, which delimit specify of hearing impaired pupils education and the goals which this pupils should achieve in elementary education and primarily in language education too. Special attention is paid to problems of teaching reading and writing - ways to acquiring reading literacy in hearing impaired pupils. Presented are methods of teaching reading and writing and I am thinking about their applicability in hearing impaired pupils education. Is given an idea of teaching in school subject Czech Language in Elementary schools for hearing impaired in history (1948 - 1990), in detail I analyze teaching materials used in that time. Current situation of teaching in school subject Czech Language is describe on the grounds of research probe realized in school year 2011/2012 on four selected elementary schools for hearing impaired in the Czech Republic. Pupils with the different language background in a primary school class

In my work I deal with the clarification of the current situation of the work with pupils foreigners at primary school with regard to the definition and differentiation of the terms pupil with different maternity language and pupil foreigner. I also deal with the factors that influence their being in the class collective with respect to the home and school environment. The thesis also explains the complexities of Czech as a foreign language. In the practical part I focus on the factors of events in the classroom and their degree of influence on the pupil with OMJ, which is assessed on the basis of interviews and case studies of pupils with OMJ and questionnaires of other classmates. I also describe the assessment of the class team, including the pupils with OMJ, who are part of it, from my own point of view like of view of the class teacher. The use of Connectors in the Texts of Non-Native Speakers of Czech

Abstract Over the last few years two learner corpora of authentic texts of non-native speakers of Czech have originated (MERLIN Corpus and CzeSL Corpus), giving linguists an important source of data for researching Czech as a foreign language. Ergo, for the first time it is possible to carry out the language analysis of non-native speakers of Czech using tools of corpus linguistics to formulate evidence-based research findings. The presented thesis uses that as well, focussing on the study and description of the use of connectors in the written text production of non-native speakers of Czech, being primarily based on evidence from the learner MERLIN Corpus, which as opposed to other corpora is characterized by linking written text production reliably to the proficiency levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), including the levels of A2-B2. At the same time, it also contains a text error annotation, thus enabling to ascertain what effect the language proficiency has on the extent of the repertoire and frequency of using connectors,...
